In Conversation: A Legacy Through Art- A Closing Reception of 'Mother and Child" Art Exhibition

As MOTHER & CHILD.. comes to a close, Ultra Silk Gallery invites you to join us for one final afternoon with the exhibition and a special conversation that takes us beyond the works on the walls and into the stories behind the collection.

Featuring works from the Estate of Sharifa Abdul-Hamid, the exhibition brings together pieces by celebrated artists including Romare Bearden, Ernie Barnes, Columbus Knox, Ellen Powell-Tiberino, Earl Lewis, Tom McKinney, Richard Watson, Leon McDuffie and more, alongside African art and cultural works collected throughout Sharifa’s life.

But who was the woman behind the collection? How did she develop her eye for art? What drew her to particular artists and works? What stories accompanied the pieces she brought home? And what was it like to be part of Philadelphia’s Black arts community during the years of Heritage Art Gallery in Old City?
